The Chess Tempo app brings the comprehensive features of Chesstempo.com to your mobile and tablet devices, offering an engaging and educational chess experience right at your fingertips. Here’s a breakdown of the currently supported features:

Chess Tactics Training

Sharpen your tactical skills with over 100,000 chess puzzles available for practice. The app includes both winning and defensive problem types, catering to a broad range of tactical scenarios. For premium members, the experience is enhanced with sophisticated custom sets designed to target your specific weaknesses. These can include sets focused on particular tactical motifs such as pins, forks, and discovered attacks, as well as sets that help you overcome past mistakes by repeating problems until you get them right. The app also leverages a spaced repetition learning algorithm, prioritizing puzzles you struggle with over those you've already mastered. Note that while custom sets can be used on the app, they need to be initially created on the Chesstempo.com website.

Play Online

Engage in live or correspondence chess games with other Chesstempo users. Following each rated game, you’ll receive a comprehensive post-game analysis, powered by our cluster of hundreds of Stockfish instances. This setup ensures high-quality results are delivered in just seconds. Premium members can further enhance their learning by extracting tactics problems from their rated games, which are then available for solving within the tactics training UI and can be selected using the advanced custom sets feature.

Opening Training

Build and refine your chess opening repertoire with the Chess Tempo app. You can create multiple repertoires for both black and white, import them from PGN files or by entering moves directly on the board. Utilize spaced repetition to train your repertoires effectively, with options to focus on a specific branch, a single repertoire, or all repertoires of one color. You can also limit training to a certain depth and target moves that are challenging to learn. Add your comments and annotations to each move, and review public comments from other users. Export your repertoire, including comments and annotations, to PGN. Track your learning progress with detailed graphs showing your repertoire's learning status and history over time. Use the opening explorer to select moves (limited to a depth of 10 moves for free members), and for premium members, access the cloud engine for in-depth analysis of any position.

Endgame Training

Hone your endgame skills with practice positions ranging from 3 to 7 pieces, all extracted from real games. With over 14,000 different positions available, free members can practice 2 positions per day. Premium members enjoy additional daily positions and can utilize custom sets to focus on particular endgame types or those they frequently get wrong. These custom sets also employ spaced repetition for effective learning. Keep in mind that some custom set types need to be created on the Chesstempo website before use on the app.

Guess the Move

Improve your chess intuition by playing through master games and getting scored on how well you predict the master's moves. This feature offers a fun and interactive way to learn from the best in the game.

Analysis Board

Utilize our cloud engines for in-depth position analysis, a feature available to premium members. This allows for high-quality analysis without draining your device’s battery. Diamond members can request up to 8 analysis threads, enabling the analysis of many more positions per second than a local engine could handle. Set up positions using FEN notation or by arranging pieces on the board with the editor, and analyze tactics problems after completion to gain a deeper understanding of the solutions.
