While SmartThings is optimized for Samsung smartphones, some features might be limited on other devices. Availability of certain features may also vary by country. Additionally, SmartThings can be installed on Wear OS-based watches, offering quick access to routines and device controls directly from your wrist when connected to a mobile phone.

App Requirements

SmartThings supports devices with at least 2GB of RAM. For Samsung Galaxy users, Smart View is required for screen mirroring. Please note that some mobile devices may not be supported.

App Permissions

The app requires several permissions, some of which are optional. While you can use SmartThings without these permissions, certain functionalities may be limited:

• Location: Enables device location, location-based routines, and Wi-Fi scanning for nearby devices.
• Nearby Devices: (Android 12 and above) Allows scanning for nearby devices using Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE).
• Notifications: (Android 13 and above) Provides updates about SmartThings devices and features.
• Camera: Used for QR code scanning to add members and devices.
• Microphone: Facilitates adding devices via high-frequency sounds.
• Storage: (Android 9-11) For saving data and sharing content.
• Files and Media: (Android 12) For saving data and sharing content.
• Photos and Videos: (Android 13 and above) To play media on SmartThings devices.
• Music and Audio: (Android 13 and above) To play sound and video on SmartThings devices.
• Phone: (Android 9) For making calls on smart speakers and displaying information about shared content.
• Phone: (Android 10 and above) For making calls on smart speakers.
• Contacts: (Android 9) To send text message notifications and display names of content senders.
• Contacts: (Android 10 and above) To send text message notifications.
• Physical Activity: (Android 10 and above) To detect the start of pet walks.
