Warhammer 40k: Space Marine 2 Mod Adds 12-Player Co-Op, Raid Missions Coming

The modding community for Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 has been incredibly active since the game's record-breaking release last year. The latest breakthrough from these dedicated modders is nothing short of spectacular. Tom, known in the community as Warhammer Workshop and the creative force behind the acclaimed Space Marine 2's Astartes Overhaul, has just released a groundbreaking 12-player co-op mod. The gameplay footage is thrilling, showcasing multiple players teaming up to take down a formidable Tyranid Trygon Prime, echoing the intensity of an MMO boss battle.

This achievement is particularly remarkable because the vanilla version of Space Marine 2 only supports up to three-player co-op. However, with the support of the game's developer, Saber Interactive, the modding team has not only shattered this limit but also set their sights on transforming the game into an even more expansive experience.

"Honestly, I’m just kind of in awe of Saber’s support for the modding community," Tom shared with IGN. "None of us expected 12-player PvE sessions to be possible this soon — but somehow, here we are. Thanks to their generosity and trust, this huge leap forward is finally here, and it completely changes what we can do."

It's important to note that the current mod is still in its testing phase, yet it's already proving highly effective. The addition of 12-player co-op significantly disrupts the game's PvE balance, which is understandable considering the increased number of players facing off against the Tyranids and the Thousand Sons compared to the original design.

With 12-player co-op now a reality, the modders are actively developing new add-ons to fully leverage this feature. Tom revealed to IGN that the team is working on innovative modes such as prop hunt, PvP within operations, extensive updates for the upcoming official horde mode, and the highly anticipated raid-style missions. These missions will feature bosses with formidable strength, requiring intense teamwork and introducing novel mechanics.

The Space Marine 2 modding scene has blossomed into a vibrant community, boasting around 20,000 active members in the main Discord server.

"As both a modder and a player, it’s hard not to be excited," Tom added. "Huge credit as always to the Saber team for not just making all this possible, but continuing to drop amazing content of their own too, without any of the usual predatory battle-pass nonsense we take for granted in modern titles."

This 12-player co-op mod raises intriguing questions about what we might see in Space Marine 3. The excitement surrounding Space Marine 2 is palpable, with the forthcoming horde mode, a new class, additional Operations maps, and new weapons on the horizon. Saber Interactive recently detailed Patch 8, confirmed some horde mode mechanics, and unveiled the setting for the new map.
