System Shock 2 Remaster Reborn with a New Name Release Date Reveal Coming Soon

Nightdive Studios announces the official rebranding of their project as System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster, promising a revitalized experience for fans and newcomers alike. This updated version will launch on PC (Steam and GOG), PlayStation 4 & 5, Xbox One & Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.

The highly anticipated release date will be revealed on March 20, 2025, during the Future Games Show: Spring Showcase. This marks the return of the genre-defining sci-fi RPG to a new generation of gamers.

Originally released in 1999, System Shock 2 blended survival horror and RPG elements to create a landmark title. The remaster aims to retain the game's chilling atmosphere while enhancing it with modern graphics and improved technical performance.

Nightdive Studios, renowned for their work on the System Shock franchise (including the 2013 System Shock 2 remaster and the recent System Shock remake), initially planned a simultaneous release with the System Shock remake. However, development delays necessitated a revised launch schedule.

The 2023 System Shock remake was very well-received, achieving a Metacritic score of 78/100, a user score of 7.6/10, and a 91% positive rating on Steam. With the System Shock 2 remaster on the near horizon, the wait for this classic's resurgence is almost over.
