Nintendo Surprise-Updates Animal Crossing After 3 Years

Author : Christian Update：Feb 12,2026

Great news for fans! Nintendo has quietly rolled out the first update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons in nearly three years.

While not groundbreaking, the update notes reveal adjustments to multiplayer compatibility between Nintendo Switch and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, marking the game's first technical refresh since November 2022.

The exact nature of these "connectivity improvements" remains unspecified, but they likely ensure seamless island visits between Switch generations when the new console launches.

Unlike flagship titles such as The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom or Kirby and the Forgotten Land, New Horizons won't receive a dedicated Switch 2 Edition. However, cross-generation playability has been confirmed for launch day.

This beloved life simulation game invites players to craft their dream island paradise through creative building and community interactions. Maintaining its stellar reputation, it currently ranks among our 25 Best Nintendo Switch Games for 2025. Our review scored it 9/10, praising it as "a masterful evolution of Nintendo's classic formula, packed with delightful discoveries."
