Today marks the release of the first story expansion for Star Wars Outlaws, titled "A Pirate’s Fortune," available on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC. This exciting new DLC has fans buzzing, largely due to the inclusion of the beloved character Hondo Ohnaka. Known for his appearances in Darth Maul comics and the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Hondo's charm and roguish nature have won over many fans.
Drew Rechner, Creative Director at Ubisoft's Massive Entertainment, shared with IGN that the team's passion for Hondo was a driving force behind the DLC. "We always knew because there were so many passionate people on the team that we needed to feature Hondo. And, you know, that scoundrel fantasy of Kay mixing with the pirate fantasy of Hondo, it just kind of makes sense, right?" Rechner explained. The expansion explores Kay's growth as a leader, with Hondo potentially serving as a mentor, adding depth to her journey.
The "A Pirate’s Fortune" DLC introduces a new storyline involving the Rokana Raiders crime gang and the Miyuki Trade League, the latter of which can provide upgrades for Kay's Trailblazer ship. Players can also enjoy a new blaster capability called Shock, enhancing the gameplay experience.
In addition to the DLC, Star Wars Outlaws is set to launch on the Nintendo Switch 2 on September 4. While Rechner remained tight-lipped about specific features for the new platform, he teased that more information would be forthcoming. "In terms of a specific feature set, that's something that we will get into later. So we'll have more stuff to talk about later," he hinted. Potential enhancements could include utilizing the Switch 2's innovative controllers as a mouse and integrating the new GameChat capability.
