Oscar Isaac's appearance at Star Wars Celebration 2025 in Tokyo (April 18-20) has ignited speculation about Poe Dameron's return to the Star Wars universe. The official Star Wars Celebration Instagram account announced Isaac's attendance, fueling fan hopes, especially considering Daisy Ridley's similar announcement at Celebration 2023, which preceded her confirmation for a new Star Wars film.
Following the conclusion of the Sequel Trilogy in 2019, Isaac's stance on returning to the franchise has evolved. Initially expressing reluctance, he later indicated openness to future projects. He previously stated a return would only occur under specific circumstances, but later clarified he was "open to anything." His past criticism of Disney's rejection of a Poe-Finn romance adds intrigue to his potential involvement. John Boyega, who also expressed past reservations, has similarly hinted at a possible return.
This has led to widespread speculation about a reunion of the Sequel Trilogy's main trio—Rey, Finn, and Poe—in the upcoming Rey film, set approximately 15 years after The Rise of Skywalker. Ridley has publicly expressed her desire for Boyega's return, making a reunion increasingly likely. Star Wars Celebration 2025 could potentially offer definitive answers, but with Disney's repeated delays of several announced Star Wars films, the earliest possible release date for the Rey film, directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, is now December 17, 2027.
