The boys are back in town — and by the boys, we're talking about none other than Stan, Kyle, Kenny, and Cartman. South Park has officially announced the return of Season 27, where it seems our favorite Colorado crew will be tackling the current state of affairs, albeit in their uniquely nonchalant way.
The beloved animated series released a new trailer to announce the upcoming season, but not without playing a clever trick on its audience. The trailer initially masquerades as a dramatic sneak peek into a new drama, complete with intense editing and foreboding music that sets an ominous tone. The deception continues until Randy, Stan's dad, and his sister Shelley appear on-screen. Randy, sitting on Shelley's bed with a Wicked movie poster in the background, asks her if she's been taking drugs, suggesting, "Because I think it could really help you."
South Park Season 27 is set to premiere on Wednesday, July 9th. Following the humorous gag, the trailer shifts back to showcasing intense action, hinting at several significant and topical moments from the season. Expect to see scenes like multiple major plane crashes, the toppling of the Statue of Liberty, an appearance by P. Diddy, and what appears to be another war with Canada. For long-time fans or even those who've seen the 1999 film "South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut," the latter might not come as a surprise.
The teaser confirms that Season 27 will debut on July 9, 2025, on Comedy Central, marking over two years since the conclusion of Season 26. Since then, the series has kept fans engaged with three specials: 2023's "South Park: Joining the Panderverse" and "South Park (Not Suitable For Children)," followed by 2024's "South Park: The End of Obesity."
South Park celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2022, having originally debuted on Comedy Central to near-instant acclaim back in 1997.
