A Tale of Weaving and the Deep South

The narrative, as detailed by writer and narrative designer Zaire Lanier, unfolds in the fictional town of Prospero, a blend of Southern landscapes. The story begins amidst a hurricane, with protagonist Hazel’s home destroyed, and her mother missing. Hazel's quest to find her mother leads to a startling discovery: her own magical abilities as a "Weaver," capable of manipulating the threads of fate.

This power allows Hazel to interact with fantastical creatures from Southern myths, starting with Catfish, a giant, talking creature. However, she also faces Haints – corrupted beings spreading decay. Hazel must master her Weaving abilities to purify them and restore balance.

Release Date and Availability:

South of Midnight launches on April 8th, 2025. Early access is available on April 3rd, 2025, with the Premium Edition ($49.99) on Steam and the Xbox Store. The standard edition is priced at $39.99, and the game will also be available on Game Pass day one.

Gameplay: Weaving the Threads of Fate

Gameplay revolves around the core mechanic of "Weaving," using threads to manipulate the environment and combat enemies. Game director Jasmin Roy highlights the tactical combat loop: "Push, Pull, and Weave" spells offer strategic advantages. Art director Whitney Clayton reveals that Prospero's diverse regions are ruled by mythical creatures with their own unique Southern Gothic histories. Two-Toed Tom, a massive albino alligator, is one such example. Hazel must gather Echoes, fragments of haunted memories, to heal these corrupted beings after epic confrontations.
