Sony Enters the Fight Stick Arena with Project Defiant
Sony PlayStation has officially announced its first wireless fight stick for PS5 and PC, codenamed Project Defiant. After years of third-party dominance in the arcade controller space, the gaming giant is stepping into the ring with its own competitive-grade peripheral.
Edwin Foo, VP of Product Development at Sony Interactive Entertainment, stated the controller will provide "unprecedented flexibility for fighting game enthusiasts." The stick promises ultra-low latency wireless performance on both PS5 and PC, with an optional wired connection for tournament-grade precision—critical for frame-perfect inputs in competitive play.
Premium Features for Fighting Game Purists
The fight stick boasts several pro-grade features:
- Sony's custom-designed high-precision digital stick
- Tool-free interchangeable restrictor gates (square/circle/octagon)
- Integrated storage compartment for spare gates
- Ergonomic tournament-approved form factor
- Included carrying sling for transportation
Sony has yet to confirm pricing or exact availability, stating only a broad 2026 release window. The timing aligns with the anticipated launch of Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, Arc System Works' new 4v4 Marvel fighter—potentially hinting at a bundle opportunity.
