Snowbreak: Containment Zone Goes on Indefinite Hiatus
Sudden Maintenance After Collab Controversy
As of March 2 at 7:59 AM PST (10:59 AM EST), Snowbreak: Containment Zone went offline for "temporary" maintenance. The game's official X account stated that the server restart time would be announced separately, though no concrete update has been provided yet.
Developer Amazing Seasun Games did not specify additional reasons for this abrupt shutdown or offer prior notice to players. However, recent events—including backlash and a cancelled partnership—have fueled speculation among the community regarding the true cause.
Notably, Snowbreak previously partnered with China Post to release merchandise featuring censored stamps and letters of various characters. The collaboration faced significant criticism, with many arguing it was inappropriate for a state-owned Chinese entity to support a game known for its erotic content.
Online hostility toward the game intensified, making it the top discussion topic on Tieba, China's largest forum similar to Reddit. Ultimately, China Post ended the partnership due to external pressure. The controversy was substantial enough to attract coverage from major Chinese news outlets.
The situation escalated further when all adult-oriented videos on Snowbreak’s Bilibili channel were removed, spanning uploads from July 2023 to the most recent post. On March 2, the official account confirmed an indefinite hiatus.
Fans Wonder if Other Gacha Games are Next
The Snowbreak community has responded to recent developments with skepticism. Many players questioned why Snowbreak was singled out, noting that similar games like Azur Lane also collaborated with China Post without facing the same level of scrutiny. Fans have called on the gaming community and internet users to support titles regardless of gender appeal.
Amidst this controversy, speculation has grown regarding whether other Chinese gacha games will face government regulations or public backlash next. Titles such as Arknights, Blue Archive, Goddess of Victory: Nikke, and Azur Promilia are reportedly being watched for potential reporting campaigns.
Currently, the community is awaiting official news on when maintenance will conclude so they can return to playing. Upon server restoration, players will receive compensation valid for one month, including a free limited SSR character and weapon of their choice from versions 1.0 through 2.8, plus an additional daily pull for the Limited-Time Manifestation Echo Covenant.
