Silent Hill f Earns 18+ Rating From Konami in Japan

Author : Michael Update:Dec 03,2025

Silent Hill f has become the first title in the Silent Hill series to receive an 18+ rating in Japan.

As shown at the start of the Japanese reveal trailer released last night, Silent Hill f is rated Mature in the United States, PEGI 18 in Europe, and CERO:Z in Japan.

Although the game is still under development and its ratings could change, Automaton noted that earlier entries like Silent Hill, Silent Hill 2, Silent Hill 3, and Silent Hill: The Room all carried a CERO:C rating—suitable for players aged 15 and over. Other games in the series developed outside Japan were typically rated CERO:C or CERO:D (ages 17+).

Even the upcoming Silent Hill 2 Remake—the reimagining of the 2001 classic by Bloober Team—was assigned a CERO:C rating in Japan, despite receiving a Mature (17+) rating in most Western markets.

Last night, Konami provided a fresh update via its Silent Hill Transmission, an online showcase dedicated to the horror franchise. This edition focused entirely on Silent Hill f, the next mainline entry—and the first in 13 years.

Originally unveiled in 2022, Silent Hill f is set in 1960s Japan and follows Shimizu Hinako, a teenager grappling with pressures from friends, family, and society. The narrative was penned by Ryukishi07, the creator behind the When They Cry visual novel series.

The reveal trailer depicts Hinako in various states of distress—drenched in blood, visibly injured, and wearing a torn Japanese school uniform. While much of the footage consisted of cutscenes rather than gameplay, it did offer a closer look at the game’s eerie setting and monster designs, hinting at an Otherworld overrun not by rust and industrial fans, but by crimson-red flowers.

Currently, there is no confirmed release date for Silent Hill f, nor was any additional information provided about No Code’s Silent Hill project, Townfall.
