A report from Insider Gaming reveals a complete reboot for the Alaskan extraction shooter initially codenamed Project Maverick and planned as a Far Cry 7 multiplayer expansion. Despite positive internal feedback, Ubisoft shifted resources to Project Blackbird (Far Cry 7), ultimately dismantling the multiplayer component by reassigning the technical team. Ubisoft Sherbrooke, a support studio, now leads development, while most of the original team transitioned to the next Far Cry installment.

Insider Tom Henderson (mid-December 2024) describes Far Cry 7 as a high-stakes experience where time is the ultimate enemy. The plot centers on the protagonist's family, kidnapped by a mysterious cult conducting horrific hallucinogen experiments on animals and children. Players must rescue their family within a 72-hour in-game limit (24 real-time hours), making time management a core gameplay mechanic.
A prominent feature is an in-game wristwatch timer, constantly emphasizing the urgency and forcing players into rapid, strategic decision-making. Far Cry 7 aims to deliver a unique, high-pressure experience where every second counts.
