Scalebound, once a highly anticipated Xbox One exclusive, embodied ambitious action-RPG design. Its unique blend of dynamic combat, evocative music, and the innovative dragon companion system captivated gamers. Announced in 2014, the game's development tragically ended in 2017 when Microsoft halted production.
Recently, however, a video surfaced on Clover Inc.'s official X account. The footage shows Hideki Kamiya and his team revisiting archived Scalebound gameplay. Kamiya expressed nostalgic pride in the project, despite its cancellation. His subsequent retweet of the video, containing the simple yet powerful message "Come on, Phil, let's do this!", directly addressed Phil Spencer, head of Xbox. This passionate plea reignites hopes for a revival, echoing similar sentiments expressed by Kamiya in early 2022.
While rumors of a Scalebound reboot intensified in early 2023, Microsoft remains officially silent. Phil Spencer's cryptic smile and "nothing to add" response to a Game Watch interview fuels speculation but offers no concrete information.
Even with renewed interest, a swift return is unlikely. Hideki Kamiya and Clover Inc. are currently focused on a new Okami installment. Any Scalebound revival would depend on the completion of these current projects before development could begin. Despite the years of silence, the persistent hope remains that players will one day experience the game's unrealized potential.
