A Nintendo Switch 2 version of Red Dead Redemption 2 may launch by late 2025, alongside reports of next-gen enhancements for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S platforms.
According to GameReactor, sources "close to Rockstar" indicate the Wild West epic will receive both a Switch 2 port and a performance upgrade patch targeting current-generation consoles (PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S).
While specifics remain unconfirmed, GameReactor's inside sources suggest the port and upgrade could arrive later this year.
This aligns with earlier reports from Nintenduo, which place the Switch 2 release within Take-Two's current fiscal year ending March 31, 2026. Distribution plans remain uncertain regarding digital versus physical release options.
Upon its 2018 debut, IGN's Red Dead Redemption 2 review hailed the title as a "masterpiece," awarding a perfect score: "Red Dead Redemption 2 stands as a rare achievement - a meticulously crafted open-world tribute to the outlaw era."
The potential Switch 2 announcement follows Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick's optimistic remarks during a recent investor Q&A. He noted improved third-party publisher support for Nintendo's upcoming platform compared to previous generations.
"We're preparing four titles for Nintendo Switch 2 launch - our strongest lineup ever for a new Nintendo system," Zelnick stated. "While we historically faced challenges as third-party Nintendo developers, their current openness presents exciting opportunities. We'll evaluate each property individually, prioritizing platforms where our audiences engage."

Take-Two's confirmed Switch 2 lineup includes Civilization 7 (launching June 5), unspecified NBA 2K and WWE 2K entries, and Borderlands 4 (releasing September 12). While these franchises previously appeared on Switch, Zelnick's comments suggest potential future catalog releases - possibly including Red Dead Redemption 2 or GTA V, though GTA 6 appears unlikely.
