The import tariffs introduced by former President Trump are once again affecting American gamers, this time impacting the availability of Razer's Blade 16 gaming laptop.
Tariffs function as taxes applied to the cost of imported products. While companies within the supply chain could potentially absorb these expenses, the additional costs are typically passed on to the consumer. For the gaming community, this unfortunately means that tech and gaming products are likely to see price increases.
Some items are even being temporarily withdrawn from the market. As reported by The Verge, although the Blade 16 was available for pre-order in the U.S. as recently as April 1st, the option to purchase the laptop has now been completely removed from the official site.
While European gamers can currently order the new laptop (subject to stock availability, which is currently an issue in the UK), the U.S. website now only offers a "Notify Me" option for updates, with all pricing information removed. Attempting to access the purchase page redirects users to a 404 error.
Razer isn't the only company discreetly pulling sales information amid market volatility. Tariffs targeting China and Taiwan—key manufacturing hubs for PC components—are also expected to impact U.S. consumers. Memory producer Micron has already warned about potential price hikes, and PC manufacturer Framework has completely "temporarily paused" sales of some products in the United States.
Last week, the pre-order date for the Nintendo Switch 2, initially set for April 9th, was removed in the U.S. following market instability caused by the newly enacted tariffs. The situation quickly spread, with Nintendo Canada also confirming a delay in its pre-order schedule.
This has led to concerns among Nintendo fans and industry analysts that the company may further increase the price of the Switch 2 and its games, especially following previous criticism of the console's announced pricing.
