Project Discontinued Amidst Similarity Concerns

Project KV, a visual novel-style game developed by former Blue Archive creators at Dynamis One, has been canceled following a significant backlash over its striking similarities to its predecessor. The cancellation, announced on September 9th via Twitter (X), followed a storm of criticism regarding the game's apparent resemblance to Blue Archive, a popular mobile gacha game.

Dynamis One's apology acknowledged the controversy and the concerns raised about Project KV's design and concept mirroring Blue Archive. The studio pledged to avoid similar issues in future projects and confirmed the removal of all Project KV-related materials online. The statement concluded with a promise to better meet fan expectations.

The controversy ignited after the release of two promotional videos in August. The first offered a voiced prologue, while the second provided a closer look at the game's characters and setting. However, a week after the second teaser, the project was abruptly canceled. While some expressed disappointment, online reaction to the cancellation was largely positive, with many viewing it as a fitting response to the perceived plagiarism.

The core issue lay in the numerous similarities between Project KV and Blue Archive. These ranged from the overall aesthetic and musical style to fundamental gameplay concepts, including a city populated by female students wielding weapons and the presence of a "Master" character analogous to Blue Archive's "Sensei." The most contentious point of comparison was the inclusion of halo-like adornments above characters' heads, a key visual element in Blue Archive with significant narrative weight.

Fans dubbed Project KV "Red Archive," highlighting the perceived derivative nature of the project, and speculated that "KV" itself was a reference to "Kivotos," Blue Archive's fictional city. While Blue Archive's general producer, Kim Yong-ha, indirectly addressed the controversy by sharing a clarification post emphasizing the lack of official connection between the two games, the damage was done.

The overwhelming negative reaction ultimately led to Project KV's cancellation. While Dynamis One's statement refrained from specifics, the decision stands as a consequence of the perceived plagiarism. The future of Dynamis One and whether they will learn from this experience remains to be seen.
