Even before its official announcement, many anticipated "Game of Thrones: Kingsroad" with a mixture of excitement and apprehension. Its initial appearance evoked comparisons to older generation console games or, frankly, a typical mobile title. Despite the less-than-stellar first impression, some remained optimistic, particularly given the relative scarcity of compelling "Game of Thrones" games.
The recent Steam Next Fest demo, however, has largely settled the debate. The consensus is overwhelmingly negative.
Players have criticized nearly every aspect of "Kingsroad," from its outdated combat mechanics and graphics to its overall game design, which strongly suggests a mobile game origin. Many deem it a simple port, and even if not, its visual style and gameplay feel distinctly reminiscent of a 2010-era title.
While some positive reviews exist on the Steam demo page, many appear formulaic and lack specific detail, raising questions about their authenticity. The consistent phrasing of comments like, "I really enjoyed the demo, looking forward to the full release," leaves room for speculation regarding the reviewers' motives.
"Game of Thrones: Kingsroad" is slated for release on PC (Steam) and mobile devices, though a concrete release date remains unannounced.
