The new trailer for Peacemaker Season 2 has just dropped, and it's already making waves by deepening the connections to the Superman universe. The trailer opens with a striking scene featuring Sean Gunn as Maxwell Lord, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner / Green Lantern, and Isabela Merced as Kendra Saunders / Hawkgirl. They are seen interviewing John Cena’s character, Peacemaker, for what appears to be a superhero team recruitment. The interview quickly turns sour, leaving Peacemaker visibly dejected as he storms out.
This trailer offers fans a fresh glimpse at these supporting characters, who are also slated to appear in James Gunn's upcoming Superman movie. The message accompanying the trailer, "Achieving peace is a team effort," sets the stage for what's to come in the new season, premiering on August 21 on Max.
Peacemaker Season 2 is strategically positioned to follow the release of Superman on July 11, marking it as the third entry in the newly established DCU, following the Creature Commandos TV series which launched late last year. This revamped cinematic universe, spearheaded by James Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran, aims to move away from the less successful DC Extended Universe (DCEU), which included films like Justice League, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Man of Steel. Despite this shift, certain elements and characters will carry over, with Peacemaker being a prime example. While Season 1 was part of the DCEU, Season 2 will fully integrate into the new DCU.
James Gunn has emphasized that "many strands will remain consistent as far as Peacemaker's story goes," although the specifics of what will transition from the DCEU to the DCU remain undisclosed. He has confirmed that all members of Team Peacemaker will return with the same actors, ensuring continuity. John Cena will reprise his leading role, alongside Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase, and Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo.
Additionally, Gunn has revealed that Peacemaker Season 2 will take place after the events of both Creature Commandos and Superman, with the latter's events directly influencing the storyline of Peacemaker. This interconnected narrative promises to enrich the viewing experience and further integrate the DCU's storytelling.
