Hideaki Nishino has been named the sole CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE), with his new position taking effect on April 1, 2025. This announcement came via a press release this evening, which also highlighted significant changes in Sony's executive leadership. Sony's CFO, Hiroki Totoki, is stepping into the role of president and CEO of the entire Sony Corporation, replacing Kenichiro Yoshida, who has been at the helm since April 2018, following Kazuo Hirai. Additionally, Lin Tao, previously the SVP of finance, corporate development, and strategy, is being promoted to CFO.
Just last year, it was announced that Nishino and Hermen Hulst would share leadership of SIE following the retirement of former CEO Jim Ryan. Hulst was appointed head of PlayStation Studios, while Nishino was tasked with overseeing hardware and technology. With this new development, Nishino will now lead the entire SIE operation and the platform business group, whereas Hulst will continue to spearhead PlayStation Studios.
Nishino, who has been with Sony since 2000, previously held the position of SVP of the platform experience group. Commenting on his new role, Nishino stated, "I am truly honored to take the helm at Sony Interactive Entertainment. Technology and creativity are two of our biggest strengths as we continue to focus on developing experiences that deliver entertainment for everyone. We will continue to grow the PlayStation community in new ways, such as IP expansion, while also delivering the best in technology innovation. I want to thank Hermen for his expertise and leadership as he continues his role as CEO, Studio Business Group. I am deeply grateful for the PlayStation community and their continued support and I am very excited for what the future holds."
