Nintendo Switch Pro Leak: Massive Storage Upgrade Unveiled

Leaked GameStop SKUs Suggest Nintendo Switch 2 Will Support microSD Express Cards

Recent leaks suggest the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 will feature a significant upgrade in storage technology: support for microSD Express cards. This revelation comes from several GameStop stock keeping units (SKUs) seemingly related to unreleased Switch 2 accessories. Reddit user Opposite-Chemistry96 initially shared these SKUs, listing "Switch 2 Exp Micro SD Card" products in 256GB and 512GB capacities.

This points to a substantial improvement over the current Switch's UHS-I microSD card support. The implications are significant:

Dramatic Speed and Capacity Enhancements:

The Switch's UHS-I cards offer a maximum transfer speed of around 95 MB/s. In contrast, microSD Express cards, leveraging the NVMe protocol (similar to high-speed SSDs), boast transfer speeds nearing 985 MB/s – a nearly 900% increase. Capacity also sees a massive boost, jumping from a 2TB maximum for UHS-I to a potential 128TB for microSD Express.

Pricing and Availability Hints:

GameStop's internal system, as per the leak, indicates pricing of $49.99 for a 256GB microSD Express card and $84.99 for a 512GB version. Additional SKUs were found for a standard Switch 2 carrying case ($19.99) and two deluxe versions ($29.99).

Timing and Official Announcements:

The Switch 2 is rumored to have begun mass production in late 2024, possibly as early as September. A flurry of hardware leaks since Q4 2024 supports this claim. Nintendo has stated twice that an official reveal will occur before the end of its fiscal year (March 31, 2025), leaving just over two months for an official announcement.

Comparison Table: UHS-I vs. microSD Express

Feature UHS-I microSD Express
Transfer Speed ~95 MB/s ~985 MB/s
Max Capacity 2TB 128TB

While these leaks are unofficial, they strongly suggest a major leap forward in storage capabilities for the Nintendo Switch 2. The significantly faster transfer speeds and increased storage capacity promise a smoother and more versatile gaming experience.
