Some Nintendo Switch Games Are Getting Nintendo Switch 2 Upgrades, Including Breath of the Wild and Metroid Prime 4

During today's Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, Nintendo announced that nearly all games from the original Nintendo Switch will be compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2. Moreover, a select few titles are receiving enhanced "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" versions, boasting unique features and improvements. The spotlighted games include The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and Mario Party: Jamboree.

Each of these upgraded games comes with distinct enhancements tailored to the Nintendo Switch 2's capabilities. Super Mario Party: Jamboree introduces "Jamboree TV", featuring mouse controls, audio recognition, enhanced rumble, and gameplay utilizing a new camera accessory.

Play*The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild* and *Tears of the Kingdom* will benefit from improved resolution, framerate, and HDR support. Additionally, they'll feature a new service on the Nintendo Switch Online app called "Zelda Notes", offering voice guidance to locate Shrines and Koroks, and the ability to share creations in *Tears of the Kingdom* through QR codes.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land is set to receive a new story exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2 titled "Star-Crossed World", alongside enhanced graphics and framerates.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Pokemon Legends: Z-A are also getting upgrades. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will support mouse controls and boast 4K resolution at 60fps with HDR. Pokemon Legends: Z-A will feature improved resolution and framerates.

These enhanced editions will be available in both physical and digital formats. Owners of the original games on the Nintendo Switch can purchase upgrade packs for Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Mario Party, and Kirby to enjoy the Nintendo Switch 2 enhancements.

4 ImagesFurther into the presentation, third-party titles like Civilization 7 (with mouse support) and Street Fighter 6 (with exclusive game modes) were revealed to be getting their own Nintendo Switch 2 Editions.

The mention of "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" games first surfaced last week on a webpage, linked to the newly announced Virtual Game Card system. It noted that these upgraded games cannot be transferred via Virtual Game Card to the original Nintendo Switch.
