To ensure that dedicated Switch players get their hands on the new console, Nintendo has introduced specific pre-order measures on the official My Nintendo Store. If you're a Nintendo Account holder, you can now register your interest in pre-ordering the Nintendo Switch 2 system along with "select accessories." Once your turn comes up, you'll receive an invitation email, valid for 72 hours, to complete your purchase.

To be eligible for these invitations, you need to meet certain criteria: you must have a Nintendo Switch Online membership with at least 12 months of paid membership and have logged a minimum of 50 hours of gameplay on your current Switch by April 2, 2025. According to the site's fine print, these invitations will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, prioritizing those who meet the criteria.

Nintendo has made it clear that these invitations are non-transferable and will be sent to the email address linked to the interested Nintendo Account. Additionally, there is a one-per-account limit for both the system and each accessory during the invitation period. You can express interest in either a base Nintendo Switch 2 system or one bundled with Mario Kart World. Once you place your order, you'll receive an approximate shipping date, but Nintendo notes that release-day delivery isn't guaranteed due to processing and shipping times.

These measures are designed to ensure that those who pre-order the Nintendo Switch 2 are genuine fans looking to enjoy the console themselves, rather than resellers looking to flip it for profit. This approach aims to curb the scalping issues seen with previous high-demand products like the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and the Pokémon Trading Card Game.
