Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Cons May Function as Computer Mice
Emerging circumstantial evidence suggests the Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Cons might offer a novel functionality: acting as computer mice. While the widespread adoption of this mouse-like mode by game developers remains uncertain, it aligns with Nintendo's history of innovative controller experimentation.
The evidence comes from Famiboards user LiC, who previously analyzed Vietnamese customs data related to a suspected Nintendo parts supplier. This data source has fueled numerous Switch 2 rumors since mid-2024.
In early January 2025, LiC revealed further findings: shipping manifests referencing polyethylene (PE) adhesive tape described as "mouse soles" and intended "to stick to game console handles." This terminology, typically associated with computer mouse bottoms, strongly hints at mouse-like functionality for the Switch 2 Joy-Cons.
Two "mouse sole" model numbers, LG7 and SML7, were noted. These haven't been found in public component databases, suggesting they are unreleased products. The listed size, 90 x 90mm, appears large enough to cover the back of the Joy-Cons, likely requiring trimming during assembly.
Not a First for Handhelds
While unconventional, a mouse-like controller mode isn't unprecedented. The Lenovo Legion GO, released in 2023, already incorporates this feature with its right controller, transformable into a mouse when rotated sideways. Lenovo even provides a plastic slider for improved surface movement.
The Legion GO also features magnetic controller rails, a feature rumored for the Switch 2. This similarity further strengthens the speculation surrounding the Switch 2's potential design and features.
