"Nintendo Reveals Pricey Upgrades for Switch 2 Games"

Nintendo has recently announced the pricing for upgrading two popular titles from their original Switch versions to the enhanced Nintendo Switch 2 Editions: Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree. These upgrades come with a hefty price tag, significantly higher than previous upgrades for other titles.

Previously, upgrading The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom from the original Switch version to the Switch 2 Edition cost $9.99 each. However, NintendoLife has reported that the upgrades for Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree are priced at more than double that amount per game.

The Nintendo Switch 2 Enhanced Edition of Breath of the Wild includes improved visuals and performance, achievements, and support for the new "Zelda Notes" service available through the Nintendo Switch Online app. Owners of the original Switch version of Breath of the Wild can access these enhancements by purchasing an "upgrade pack" for $10.

The Switch 2 Edition of Kirby and the Forgotten Land introduces new story content in the "Star-Crossed World." Meanwhile, Super Mario Party Jamboree's Switch 2 Edition features "Jamboree TV," which utilizes the Joy-Con 2 mouse controls, the Switch 2 microphone, and the Switch 2 USB-C camera (sold separately). Additionally, this edition offers upgraded resolution up to 1440p in TV mode, improved frame rates, new minigames, and enhanced online functions.

While U.S. prices on the American Nintendo eShop have not been finalized, possibly due to President Trump's tariffs, the UK Nintendo eShop lists the Kirby and the Forgotten Land upgrade pack at £16.99 / €19.99, which is more than twice the £7.99 / €9.99 charged for upgrading either Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom. The same price applies to the Super Mario Party Jamboree – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV upgrade, suggesting a U.S. price of $19.99 for each.

The higher upgrade cost could be related to the $80 price tag for both Kirby and The Forgotten Land - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star Crossed World and Super Mario Party Jamboree - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV. The original Switch versions of these games are priced at $59.99 each, making the new editions $20 more expensive.

For those not opting for an upgrade, here are the prices for the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games in the U.S.:

It's worth noting that both Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom upgrade packs are available at no additional cost to Nintendo Switch Online and Expansion Pack subscribers. However, there is no similar offer for those looking to upgrade Kirby or Super Mario Party Jamboree.

Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders began on April 24, with the console priced at $449.99. Pre-orders have been met with high demand, leading Nintendo to warn U.S. customers who pre-ordered through the My Nintendo Store that release date delivery is not guaranteed.
