Summer Game Fest 2025 marks Nintendo's highly anticipated return after a two-year absence from the event. Here's what fans can expect from Nintendo's showcase and the Xbox Games Showcase at this year's festival.
Summer Game Fest 2025 Partners Updates
Summer Game Fest 2025 is just around the corner, and excitement is building for this year's lineup. Organizers confirmed via Twitter/X on May 28th that the event will feature a record-breaking 60+ partners, including the welcomed return of gaming giant Nintendo.
After skipping the past two SGF events to focus on their Nintendo Direct presentations, Nintendo's comeback is particularly noteworthy as they prepare to launch their next-generation Switch 2 handheld console.
While Nintendo's participation has been confirmed, fans should temper expectations for a full stage presentation. The appearance will likely focus on Switch 2 details and potential game trailers for the upcoming system.
Xbox Games Showcase Could Feature Everwild and State of Decay 3
Microsoft continues its annual tradition with the Xbox Games Showcase during Summer Game Fest. Beyond anticipated reveals like Call of Duty, Gears of War: E-Day, and Outer Wilds 2, two long-awaited titles may finally get their moment.
State of Decay 3, first announced in 2020, showed significant progress at last year's showcase with in-engine footage. Xbox CEO Phil Spencer recently expressed his enthusiasm for the franchise, noting development milestones during a February 2025 interview with Xbox Era.
Spencer also discussed Rare's mysterious project Everwild, originally revealed in 2019. After visiting Rare's studio, he shared encouraging updates about the game's development, describing it as progressing well towards creating that promised "unique and unforgettable experience."
While these appearances remain speculative until officially confirmed, the recent commentary suggests both titles could feature prominently at this year's showcase.
The Xbox Games Showcase airs June 8 at 10:00 AM PT / 1:00 PM ET across Xbox's official YouTube, Twitch, and Facebook channels, followed immediately by The Outer Worlds 2 Direct presentation.
