Nintendo Fights Switch 2 Scalpers Aggressively

Author : Nova Update:Nov 22,2025

Nintendo confirms readiness to prevent Switch 2 shortages and counteract scalpers, stating: "We are implementing comprehensive measures."

Following its recent financial report, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa addressed concerns about avoiding the supply shortages that plagued the original Switch's 2017 launch.

"We'll implement all available countermeasures based on our accumulated experience regarding scalpers and similar issues," Furukawa told Nikkei (translated by VGC). "We're taking thorough preparatory actions."

So what specific actions might Nintendo take? Mass production appears crucial. Last year, Nintendo emphasized manufacturing sufficient Switch 2 units as its primary anti-scalping strategy.

The original Nintendo Switch's March 2017 launch suffered from limited availability, enabling scalpers to resell consoles at premium prices. However, Furukawa confirmed in July 2024 that the successor launch will differ.

"Regarding resale prevention, we consider adequate production to fulfill consumer demand fundamental—this philosophy remains unchanged since last year," Furukawa stated.

"Additionally, we're evaluating other regionally appropriate measures within legal boundaries.

"While semiconductor shortages previously hindered Switch production, this issue has been resolved. Currently, we anticipate minimal component shortages affecting successor model manufacturing."

Nintendo will host a Switch 2 Direct presentation on April 2nd with further details, alongside global Switch 2 hands-on events.

Speaking on February 4th, 2025, Furukawa also addressed declining Switch sales, denying significant consumer anticipation for Switch 2 as the cause.

"We don't believe purchase deferral significantly impacts sales," Furukawa maintained. "While in its eighth year remains steady, we haven't reached projected targets."

Furukawa confirmed ongoing Switch support post-Switch 2 launch "while demand persists." Accordingly, both Pokémon Legends: Z-A and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond remain scheduled for 2025 Switch releases.
