Monster Hunter Wilds Faced Numerous Issues at Launch
Monster Hunter Wilds Received Mixed Reviews on Steam
Despite garnering mixed reviews on Steam, Monster Hunter (MH) Wilds has impressively surpassed the 1 million concurrent player mark. According to SteamDB, MH Wilds achieved an all-time peak of 1,384,608 concurrent players. This number significantly outpaces its predecessors, with MH World peaking at 334,684 players and MH Rise at 231,360. However, MH Wilds holds a Mixed review status on its Steam page, with only 57% of its 54,669 reviews being positive. The primary concerns voiced in the negative reviews revolve around the game's poor optimization for PC and various performance issues.
Capcom Responds to PC Performance Issues
In response to the criticism regarding MH Wilds' poor PC performance, Capcom has taken action to address these concerns. Monster Hunter's official support account, Monster Hunter Status, issued a statement on Twitter (X) on February 28, 2025, aiming to provide solutions for the numerous issues plaguing the game. The statement directs players to MH Wilds' support website, which offers answers to common questions and suggests fixes such as updating video/graphics drivers, ensuring the latest Windows updates are installed, and performing a clean installation of video drivers.
If issues persist, Capcom further advises players to consult the "Official Monster Hunter Wilds Troubleshooting & Issue Reporting Thread" on the Steam community page for more detailed steps that could help resolve their problems.
Game-breaking Bug Blocking Story Progress
A significant game-breaking bug is currently hindering player progression in MH Wilds. This bug prevents a crucial NPC from appearing in the correct location, blocking players' advancement during Main Mission: Chapter 5-2 "A World Turned Upside Down." Monster Hunter Status acknowledged this issue on Twitter (X) on March 2, 2025, and confirmed that the development team is actively working on a fix.
Additional issues have been reported, such as the "Grill a Meal" and "Ingredient Center" features not unlocking despite players meeting the criteria, along with problems when visiting the Smithy. Capcom has responded promptly, deploying hotfixes and updates across various consoles and platforms to address these concerns.
Character Editing Locked Behind Microtransactions
MH Wilds introduces microtransactions for character customization, requiring players to purchase vouchers to alter their characters' appearance and that of their Palicos. The Monster Hunter Wilds - Character Edit Voucher Three-Voucher Pack allows players to redo their character creation process three times for $6.00, available across all digital storefronts.
While players can still modify hair, eyebrow color, facial color, makeup, and clothing without additional costs, any other changes necessitate the purchase of a voucher. Similarly, editing a Palico requires a separate voucher pack. An alternative option is a $10 voucher that permits three edits for both the character and Palico. Although these microtransactions were not part of the testing period, Capcom had previously announced their inclusion in the game. To ease the transition, Capcom is offering a single free character edit voucher.
