Monster Hunter Wilds is contemplating a 24-hour extension for their Open Beta Test 2 following a significant PlayStation Network outage that disrupted gameplay over the weekend. Here’s everything you need to know about the extension and the surrounding events.
Monster Hunter Wilds To Extend Beta Test 2
PS5 Players Could Not Play For 24 Hours
Monster Hunter Wilds (MH Wilds) is considering extending their Open Beta Test 2 by one day due to the PlayStation Network outage that started at 6 PM EST on February 7th and lasted for 24 hours. This unexpected downtime left all online games on the console, including the MH Wilds beta, unplayable. The service was restored around 8 PM EST, according to the official PlayStation NA X (formerly Twitter) support account.
While the exact timing for the extension has not been confirmed, it will be a 24-hour addition to compensate for the lost playtime. The extension could occur anytime from the end of Beta Test 2 Part 2 up until February 27th, the day before the game's official release. Beta Test 2 Part 1 has already concluded, and Part 2 is scheduled to start on February 13th at 7 PM PT, allowing players to dive back into the action and perhaps encounter the amusing low-poly bug.
The Cursed Low-Poly Bug Returns
Capcom has noted that the beta builds are outdated and do not represent the final game's quality, leading to various bugs including the well-known low-poly character glitch. This glitch, resulting from textures not loading correctly, transforms characters, Palicos, and even the game's monsters into blocky, low-resolution versions of themselves.
Rather than frustration, fans have embraced these quirky low-poly models, sharing their encounters on social media and even hoping for a nod to this humorous glitch in future updates. In an interview with GamesRadar+, the MH Wilds team expressed their amusement at players' reactions to the bug but emphasized the importance of experiencing the game with proper specifications upon its full release on February 28th, 2025.
Monster Hunter Wilds marks a new chapter in the acclaimed series, introducing an open-world setting called the Forbidden Lands. Players will assume the role of the Hunter, tasked with exploring this mysterious region and confronting its apex predator, the White Wraith. The game will launch on PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
PlayStation Network’s Largest Outage In Recent Years
PlayStation attributed the outage to an "operational issue" on their NA X support account and offered an apology along with an additional five days of PlayStation Plus service as compensation. However, the community expressed dissatisfaction with Sony's communication during the outage, reminiscent of the 2011 PSN outage caused by a hacker attack, which affected 77 million accounts and lasted over three weeks. During that incident, Sony kept users informed about the ongoing situation and the necessary security measures.
