In celebration of its 15th anniversary, Metro is offering Metro 2033 Redux for free, but you'll need to act fast. 4A Games announced on Metro's official Twitter (X) account on April 14 that this offer is available on Steam and Xbox until April 16 at 3 PM UTC / 5 PM CET / 9 AM PT. This is your chance to dive into the game that started it all.

Last month, 4A Games shared more about their plans for the anniversary in a blog post on their official website dated March 16. They promised a year filled with events, deals, and celebratory content across Metro's social media channels, expressing gratitude to their dedicated player base.

Founded in Kyiv, Ukraine, and later expanding to Malta, 4A Games draws inspiration from Dmitry Glukhovsky's science fiction novels, starting with Metro 2033. Despite the challenges posed by the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, the studio remains committed to exploring themes related to the war. They stated, "These circumstances are incredibly challenging, the situation remains dangerous and not within our control, but we are currently as safe as possible, and we want to manage your expectations around the reveal of the next Metro title, it will be ready when it is ready, and we can’t wait for you to see it."

4A Games is currently working on two major projects: the next installment in the Metro series and a brand new IP. While details about the new IP remain under wraps, the studio has shared insights into the development of the next Metro game.

The ongoing conflict in Ukraine has deeply influenced the narrative direction of the next Metro game. As mentioned in their studio update, "As we said in our last studio update, in 2022 a full-scale russian invasion changed how we wanted to tell the story of the next Metro game. As art became life for many of our developers in Ukraine, we drew from that lived experience to create an even darker story, those themes already present in Metro becoming ever-more apparent and important."
