During today's Mario Kart World Direct, we delved deeper into the exciting new Free Roam mode, which promises to be highly engaging for multiplayer enthusiasts and offers a fresh way to explore the expansive world of Mario Kart.
Although we had the opportunity to go hands-on with Mario Kart World last week, the intricacies of Free Roam mode were only unveiled today. This innovative feature allows players to roam freely across a vast, Forza Horizon-inspired world map. Unlike previous iterations of Mario Kart, where race tracks were isolated and accessible only during races, Mario Kart World integrates these tracks into a seamless open world. This means you can transition from track to track in certain game modes and enjoy the expansive areas between them.In Free Roam mode, when you're not competing in races, you can embark on mini-adventures. The world is filled with hidden collectibles such as coins and ? panels, though the full impact of collecting these items remains a mystery. Additionally, P-Switches are scattered throughout the world, triggering small challenges like collecting blue coins when activated.
Another highlight of Free Roam mode is the integrated Photo Mode, allowing you to capture images of your racers in various poses and angles at any time. But Free Roam isn't limited to solo play; it's designed for social interaction too. You and your friends can explore the world together, take photos, tackle challenges, or simply hang out. The mode supports up to four players on a single system via split-screen, or up to eight players through local wireless play, with two players per system.
The Mario Kart World Direct also showcased a range of new characters, courses, and modes. To get the full scoop on everything revealed, check out the detailed coverage right here.
