Helldivers 2 has just received a major update, delivering fresh content and gameplay enhancements that deepen the experience for both new recruits and seasoned veterans. Patch 01.003.000 is now live across PC and PlayStation 5 platforms, introducing a wave of new threats from the Illuminate faction, expanded weapon customization and progression systems, and quality-of-life changes to the Superstore interface.
New Threats from the Illuminate
The latest update marks the beginning of a full-scale invasion by the Illuminate, bringing with it a suite of new alien enemies designed to challenge Helldivers in innovative and deadly ways. As revealed on the PlayStation Blog, players will now face off against the Stingray—a fast-moving jetfighter that provides aerial support through devastating strafing runs. The Crescent Overseer also makes its debut, capable of launching precise barrages that can flush out even well-entrenched squads. Perhaps most terrifying of all is the Fleshmob, a chaotic fusion of failed Voteless experiments turned into a hulking brute force that requires coordinated tactics to take down.
Attention, Helldivers: This is a Galactic Emergency.
The true Illuminate invasion has begun. In a sudden and completely unprovoked offensive manoeuvre, the full Illuminate fleet is emerging from the Meridia Singularity. Nothing is safe—not even the Heart of Democracy itself.
Arrowhead also hinted at possible future additions, noting reports of “even larger ships” whose abilities are still unknown. Players should stay alert as they uncover more surprises hidden within this evolving conflict.
Weapon Customization & Progression System
For the first time in Helldivers 2, players can now customize and progress their primary weapons. Most primary weapons feature progression levels that unlock upon completing missions, granting access to new attachments via Requisition. These include sights, muzzles, under-barrel accessories, magazines, and more—each tweakable to suit individual playstyles and mission requirements.
Whether it's tweaking sights for precision, changing color patterns, adjusting magazines for ammo capacity, muzzles to optimize weapon performance characteristics, or adjusting under-barrel attachments for the handling you want, you're in command of how your weaponry performs on the battlefield. This level of individual attunement is sure to make your favorite primary best in its class.
Additionally, a selection of themed weapon patterns is now available, including designs inspired by elite factions such as Viper Commandos, Freedom's Flame, Chemical Agents, and Truth Enforcers. These patterns begin unlocking on May 15 with the launch of the Masters of Ceremony Warbond.
Superstore Enhancements
To improve accessibility and convenience, the Superstore has been updated so that desired items remain consistently available. No more waiting for specific items to rotate back into stock—players can now purchase what they need when they need it, streamlining gear progression and loadout optimization.
Balance Changes & Performance Improvements
Beyond new features, the patch includes a comprehensive balance overhaul targeting key gameplay mechanics. Adjustments have been made to spread, drag, sway, melee weapon stamina costs, shrapnel spawning behavior, and fire damage output—ensuring a more refined and fair combat experience across all difficulty levels.
