The Pointer Sisters' hit "Hot Together" has experienced a remarkable surge in Spotify streams, skyrocketing by an astounding 182,000% within just two hours of its feature in the newly released trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6. The trailer, unveiled yesterday, has already garnered an impressive 77.7 million views on YouTube, showcasing the immense impact of the GTA franchise on popular culture.
As of now, "Hot Together" has accumulated just over 250,000 streams on Spotify, a number poised for significant growth in the coming days. Sulinna Ong, Spotify's Global Head of Editorial, remarked on the phenomenon, stating, "Grand Theft Auto cuts through popular culture like almost nothing else. Music has been synonymous with the series since the very beginning, so it’s great to see fans both new and established connecting with an iconic track in this way."
This isn't the first time a GTA trailer has boosted a song's popularity. When the first trailer for GTA 6 was revealed in late 2023, Tom Petty's "Love Is A Long Road" saw a similarly massive increase in streams, sparking fan theories about its connection to the game's storyline. Although no such theories have surfaced for "Hot Together" yet, the song's inclusion in the trailer has undoubtedly reignited interest in the Pointer Sisters' 1986 classic.
