The release of Trailer 2 for *Grand Theft Auto 6* (GTA 6) has sent the long-running GTA 6 mapping project into a frenzy. With the project's Discord community rapidly approaching 400 members, the excitement is palpable as volunteers dive into the new details provided by the trailer. Garza, a key overseer of the Discord server, shared with IGN, "It’s an information overload - it really changes everything for us for the rest of the year. We have so much new content to work on and we’re really just getting started."
The GTA 6 Mapping Discord, which began after the significant leaks in September 2022, aims to create the most accurate map of the game's world possible. Prior to Trailer 2, the project relied on those leaks and the content from Trailer 1 released in December 2023. The latest map version, v0.049, released by project lead DuPz0r at the end of March 2025, is now outdated thanks to the fresh insights from Trailer 2.

Rockstar not only confirmed plot details and characters but also released 70 new screenshots, along with images and information about the explorable areas within the state of Leonida, GTA 6’s version of Florida. Confirmed locations include Vice City (akin to Miami), the tropical Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, and Mount Kalaga, a national landmark near the state’s northern border.
The volunteers are meticulously analyzing Trailer 2 to pinpoint the exact locations of everything shown, striving to align fictional spaces with real-world counterparts. This effort will culminate in an updated map, eagerly awaited by fans who are looking forward to a comprehensive preview of GTA 6 ahead of its May 2026 release. The community is prepared to continue refining the map with any new assets Rockstar might release, including gameplay footage. Only upon the game's launch will they be able to assess the accuracy of their work.

However, the project faces potential legal challenges from Rockstar's parent company, Take-Two. A modder who created a playable version of the GTA 6 map within GTA 5 was forced to halt their project following a takedown notice from Take-Two in March. When asked about this concern last year, Garza expressed, "some mild concern," but also highlighted that the project does not directly showcase leaked material and might even be seen as beneficial by increasing game interest. He added, "If I were ever in the situation of receiving a cease and desist though, then I would respectfully cease and desist. As we get closer to a precise map, it may be possible to receive that notice in the future."
As we await further developments, stay tuned for more on GTA 6, including all the details we’ve discovered so far and all the GTA 6 fan theories emerging from Trailer 2 itself.
