Fallout 76 Season 20 introduces an exciting new feature for players to explore the radiation-infested wasteland as a Ghoul. Dive into the details of all the ghoul-related features and the new level 50 character boost.
Fallout 76 Season 20 Out Now
Unleash the Ghoul Within
Fallout 76's latest update, "The Ghoul Within," is now live and allows players to experience Appalachia as a Ghoul. Announced by Bethesda on March 18, this season adds various ghoul-related features, mechanics, and new cosmetics to enhance players' C.A.M.P.
Players can transform into a Ghoul through the process of Ghoulification by completing the "Leap of Faith" questline. This questline leads players to a new area in the Savage Divide, introducing them to unique characters who assist in their transformation. As a Ghoul, players gain exclusive abilities like Glow and Feral, along with access to 30 new Ghoul-specific Perks, known as "Gherks."
The Feral ability replaces traditional hunger and thirst mechanics with a Feral meter. Depending on the meter's level, players receive different boosts. However, if the meter drops to 0%, it drastically alters gameplay: "At 0%: you gain +150% Melee Damage, and lose -5 Endurance, -99 Charisma, -30 Max HP, -20 Max AP, -300% Hip-fire Gun Accuracy & V.A.T.S. Accuracy."
The Glow ability allows players to consume radiation, granting immunity to diseases and mutations, and causing players to emit a glow. It also increases maximum health, heals damage, and enhances Ghoul-exclusive Perks.
Players have 28 Gherks to choose from and two new legendary perks designed specifically for Ghouls. Note that Ghouls cannot access perks related to Hunger, Thirst, or Chem Resistance, as these are irrelevant to their new condition.
A Day In The Life of A Ghoul
Navigating the radiation-filled wasteland as a Ghoul is easier thanks to the new abilities and Gherks. However, interactions with certain factions, such as the Brotherhood of Steel, can turn hostile due to players' Ghoul status, potentially locking them out of some questlines.
Fortunately, a new NPC named Jaye offers disguises that allow Ghouls to access content otherwise restricted to them. If the Ghoul life doesn't suit, players can revert to human form via the Character Screen, though this is a permanent decision. Returning to Ghoul form requires purchasing the Ghoul Retransformation for 1000 Atoms on the Character Screen.
Level 50 Character Boost and Season 20 Patch Notes
New and veteran players alike can now utilize the Level 50 Character Boost, available for 1500 Atoms with the Season 20 update. This boost accelerates players' progress, enabling immediate engagement with multiplayer features like Daily Ops and Public Events, as well as some story content.
The update also includes numerous bug fixes and balance adjustments, such as enhancements to accessibility, combat, and weapon damage. Bethesda has also teased the upcoming "The Big Bloom" update, set for April 29, as part of their season calendar.
Since its launch in November 2018, Fallout 76 has evolved significantly, overcoming initial challenges to earn a "Mostly Positive" rating on Steam, with 76% positive reviews. The game is playable on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.
