Fortnite UI Overhaul Sparks Fan Outrage

Summary

  • Epic Games recently updated Fortnite with a quest UI redesign that many fans dislike.
  • The new UI features quests in collapsible blocks and submenus, leading to user frustration.
  • While new pickaxe options are appreciated, the time-consuming nature of the UI changes is a concern.

Epic Games introduced significant changes to Fortnite's user interface in their latest update, sparking a wave of dissatisfaction among the game's community. Following the conclusion of the holiday-themed Winterfest event, which featured collaborations with celebrities like Shaq, Snoop Dogg, and Mariah Carey and offered players free cosmetics over 14 days, Fortnite has moved into Chapter 6 Season 1. This new chapter has been well-received, with a refreshed map, an overhauled movement system, and the introduction of new game modes such as Ballistic, Fortnite OG, and LEGO Fortnite: Brick Life. However, not all updates have been met with enthusiasm.

On January 14, Epic Games rolled out an update packed with new content, cosmetics, and a major UI redesign specifically for quests. Instead of a straightforward list, quests are now organized into expansive collapsible blocks with multiple submenus. Although some players appreciate the sleek look of the new UI at first glance, the general consensus is one of frustration due to the cumbersome navigation required to access quests.

Fortnite’s New Quest UI Is Unpopular With Fans

The new design aims to streamline quest accessibility across different game modes, such as Reload and Fortnite OG, by eliminating the need to switch between modes in the lobby. However, the implementation has been criticized, particularly for its impact during gameplay. Players have reported that the time spent navigating the new UI in the midst of a match can lead to premature elimination, a problem highlighted during the completion of Fortnite's new Godzilla quests.

Despite the backlash against the UI changes, Epic Games has received praise for another recent update: the ability to use most instruments from Fortnite Festival as pickaxes and back blings. This addition offers players more cosmetic customization options, which has been a welcome change for many in the community. Overall, while some aspects of the current Fortnite update have caused discontent, many fans remain optimistic about the game's future direction.
