Behaviour Interactive has offered an in-depth look at its new Killer, Springtrap, detailing how his unique abilities will bring the signature Five Nights at Freddy’s experience to Dead by Daylight when the chapter launches on June 17, 2025.
Ahead of today's public test build (PTB) for the upcoming Chapter, Behaviour provided IGN with exclusive details on this horror crossover. The deep dive reveals how Springtrap’s powers are inspired by the classic Five Nights at Freddy’s games, and introduces a new jump-scare mechanic unlike anything previously seen in the asymmetric horror title.
The studio describes this crossover Chapter as potentially "one of the game’s biggest to date," largely due to the addition of Springtrap. Known in Dead by Daylight as The Animatronic, this stalking, axe-wielding yellow rabbit holds a complex place in Five Nights at Freddy’s lore but has never been playable—giving Behaviour creative freedom to reinterpret the character for fans.

Springtrap wields a giant pizza knife as his main weapon and a fire axe for his special Power. The axe proves especially useful, functioning as an area-of-effect tool that reveals Survivors to the Killer. A well-aimed throw can lodge the axe in a Survivor’s back, setting up a classic Five Nights at Freddy’s-style jump scare when Springtrap retrieves it.
Adding to the authenticity, Five Nights at Freddy’s movie star Matthew Lillard has lent his voice and likeness to The Animatronic’s Yellow Rabbit Legendary outfit. Additional cosmetics include the Legendary Glitchtrap outfit, along with Very Rare Clown Springtrap and Toxic Springtrap outfits. Survivors can also rock Freddy Fazbear t-shirts.

While Springtrap fulfills years of fan requests for a FNaF killer, the new Chapter offers even more. Though no Survivor character is included, players can flee for their lives on the all-new Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria map—a ground-up recreation of the iconic restaurant, twisted by The Entity.
Key areas in the new map include the Front Entrance, Kitchen, Janitor Room, and Dining Hall. Freddy’s entire band, including Bonnie and Chica, makes an appearance as well. The Pizzeria serves as another chilling arena for Dead by Daylight, complete with hidden Easter Eggs and jump scares that players will discover over time.

Thankfully, you don’t need to play the new map to experience classic FNaF gameplay. On any map, Survivors fleeing Springtrap will notice new security doors, cameras, and a special office have appeared. These aren’t just nostalgic callbacks—they’re functional tools that help Survivors track the Killer’s movements, provided they have enough battery power.
If you’re eager to try Springtrap ahead of the full release, the Five Nights at Freddy’s Chapter PTB goes live today at 9 a.m. PT / 12 p.m. ET. For those waiting for the complete experience—including quality-of-life updates and additional content—the full Chapter arrives next month.
