Skateboarding's Back: Console Playtesting for the New skate. Begins!
The highly anticipated skate. game, a fresh entry in the beloved Skate franchise, is finally available for console playtesting! Xbox and PlayStation players can now join the skate. Insider program to experience the first new Skate game in over 15 years. While PC players have been testing since mid-2022, this marks a significant step towards the game's wider release.
The last official Skate game, Skate 3, launched in 2010. Despite a dedicated fanbase, EA seemingly shelved the franchise for a considerable period. However, persistent fan support, fueled by the #Skate4 hashtag, ultimately led to the creation of a dedicated development team and the announcement of skate. Last fall, early access was slated for 2025, and this console playtest is a promising sign of progress.
The skate. team, via an official Twitter announcement and short video, confirmed the console playtest via the Insider program (registration required). While specific gameplay details, such as the rumored improved replay editor, remain undisclosed, they did confirm expanded Black hairstyle options and playfully addressed the "Fall 2024" playtest announcement.
EA has confirmed skate. will be a free-to-play, live-service game set in the fictional city of San Vansterdam. This city, still under development, draws inspiration from San Vanelona and Port Carverton, as well as real-world locations. While a map leaked in 2023, its current state likely differs significantly. Fans can either participate in the playtest or patiently await the game's broader release.
Keep Rolling Until 2025 (and Beyond?)
While early access is targeted for 2025, delays are always a possibility. Fortunately, several other skateboarding games provide ample entertainment until skate.'s official launch.
