Summary

  • Recent Windows 11 updates caused launch issues for several Assassin's Creed games.
  • Patches for Assassin's Creed Origins and Valhalla have been released, resolving the problem for those titles. Assassin's Creed Odyssey may still experience issues.

Gamers experiencing problems with Assassin's Creed Origins and Assassin's Creed Valhalla following a Windows 11 update can rejoice! Ubisoft has released patches addressing compatibility issues introduced by the Windows 11 24H2 update. This update, while bringing features like Wi-Fi 7 support and AI Copilot+, unfortunately caused some games, including several Assassin's Creed titles, to malfunction.

These patches are available automatically through Steam. Before installing, ensure you have sufficient storage space: the Origins patch requires 230 MB, while the Valhalla patch needs 500 MB.

Windows Update 24H2 Still Affecting Some Ubisoft Games

The root cause of the incompatibility between the Windows 11 24H2 update and certain Ubisoft games remains unclear. While the fixes for Origins and Valhalla are welcome, reports persist of ongoing problems with other titles, notably Assassin's Creed Odyssey, which may still fail to launch or become unresponsive. While previous patches addressed critical issues in Star Wars: Outlaws and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, some performance problems may linger. Players anticipating the Windows update should consider delaying the upgrade until a fix for Odyssey is available.

This situation highlights a concerning oversight. Reports of game incompatibility surfaced five months before the official 24H2 rollout, yet the issue wasn't fully resolved prior to release. This is particularly problematic given Microsoft's push for Windows 10 users to upgrade to Windows 11. Fortunately, the majority of games appear unaffected by this update.
