Wednesday is set to become the ultimate day for movie lovers, as AMC Theaters have unveiled an exciting new initiative to boost mid-week attendance. Starting July 9, AMC will slash their ticket prices by a whopping 50% on Wednesdays. Yes, you heard it correctly—tickets will be half off!
According to a statement from the company reported by Bloomberg, this all-day discount will be calculated based on the standard adult evening ticket price. What's even more thrilling is that premium showings, like IMAX or 4DX, will also enjoy the 50% discount. This is a fantastic opportunity, especially considering the usual high cost of an IMAX movie for individuals, families, or groups.
The movie industry has faced significant challenges since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, which forced theaters to close and led to a sharp decline in ticket sales. While there has been a gradual recovery, the industry is still not back to its pre-pandemic vigor. However, AMC CEO Adam Aron remains optimistic about the future.
Aron noted that the first quarter experienced low box office turnout, which he described as an "anomaly." However, he believes this issue has "already corrected itself" with the strong performances of blockbuster hits like "A Minecraft Movie" and "Sinners." Since April 1, ticket sales have soared, with "A Minecraft Movie" raking in an impressive $408 million and "Sinners" accumulating $215 million and counting.
With the summer blockbuster season just kicking off, featuring highly anticipated films like "Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning" and Disney’s live-action "Lilo and Stitch," along with "Superman" and "The Fantastic Four: First Steps" set to launch in July, the box office is poised for a significant boost. AMC's new Wednesday discount initiative is sure to play a pivotal role in driving these numbers even higher.
