Unfortunately for the hopeful gamer, Sweeney's reply was brief and definitive, stating that the release on Steam would not happen, with no further explanation provided. Disappointed, the user shared their plan B: to purchase the game on Xbox.

Alan Wake 2 is unique among Epic Games Store exclusives because Epic Games not only published the horror title but also co-financed its development with Remedy. Remedy reported that the sales of Alan Wake 2 met their business expectations, and they were pleased with the collaboration. However, Remedy plans to self-publish future games, which means they will be available on platforms like Steam as well. Despite this, more than a year after its release, Alan Wake 2 has yet to turn a profit.
