Krafton has taken a significant step to distance themselves from the ongoing legal issues of Ironmace Studios by rebranding Dark and Darker Mobile to Abyss of Dungeons. This move primarily affects the game's title and likely some elements specific to Dungeons & Dragons, with little to no changes to the core gameplay mechanics.
For those unfamiliar with the situation, Ironmace Studios is currently entangled in a legal dispute with Nexon, who alleges that Ironmace misused trade secrets. Nexon claims that Ironmace, founded by former employees, utilized assets and ideas developed during their tenure at Nexon to create Dark and Darker. The lawsuit remains unresolved, and as previously reported in February, there were indications that Dark and Darker Mobile might undergo a name change. This has now been confirmed with the new title, Abyss of Dungeons.
No DifferenceFortunately, the name change does not alter the game's fundamental mechanics. While Dark and Darker Mobile had already introduced significant changes such as a third-person perspective, fans can rest assured that the core experience remains intact.
For Ironmace enthusiasts, this development might be disappointing. However, there's hope that the legal battles will conclude soon, allowing fans to enjoy Abyss of Dungeons as a companion to the main PC version of Dark and Darker. The game is set for a soft launch on June 11th in Brazil, Thailand, Indonesia, and Mexico.
