Moth Lake offers a rich, story-driven experience filled with over 20,000 words of text and more than 300 unique scenes. The narrative takes players on an emotional rollercoaster, blending mystery, horror, and deep character exploration. The game tackles dark themes and sorrowful moments, yet balances them with absurd humor and quirky dialogues, making it hard to categorize strictly as a horror game.

Players navigate a 2.5D world, interacting with numerous hotspots and NPCs. Characters can manipulate objects and perform various actions to solve diverse puzzles. The modern pixel art style boasts a vibrant color palette and detailed frame-by-frame animations, covering actions such as talking, walking, running, crouching, crawling, pushing, climbing, sneaking, punching, and throwing.

The environments feature advanced lighting and shading, particle effects, and parallax scrolling to create a 3D-like experience. With six main characters and over 50 unique NPCs, players control multiple characters throughout the main story and additional chapters.
