Mahjong School: Master Japanese Riichi Mahjong

Mahjong School is your destination for learning to play Mahjong. We specialize in teaching the Japanese style, which is nearly identical to the European (Riichi) and US styles. While it has some differences from Chinese, Hong Kong, or Taiwan styles, mastering the Japanese style will allow you to easily adapt to others.

Mahjong School offers three primary methods to help you learn Japanese Mahjong.

1. The Mahjong Calculator.

Click to add tiles to your hand or declare TING, CHOW, PON, or CHI to form a winning hand. You can also configure various conditions like DORA tiles and self-draws. Once set, the calculator will compute the hand's Fu and points for you, providing detailed descriptions including hand names.

2. The Simple Tutorial.

This tutorial lists all possible Han values, complete with example hands and explanations.

3. A Practice Mode.

Play Mahjong directly against an AI opponent. The AI is designed for beginners, offering a friendly environment for learners. Practice is the ultimate way to master Mahjong.
