Boerenbridge, also known as Chinese Pooping in Flanders, is a popular card game that involves strategic prediction and card play. Here's a detailed guide on how to keep track of points and understand the game mechanics:
Objective
The main goal of Chinese Pooping is to predict and achieve the number of strokes (tricks) you can win in each round. The player with the highest total points at the end of all rounds wins the game.
Game Setup and Play
Dealing Cards: The game starts with one card dealt to each player in the first round. In subsequent rounds, the number of cards dealt increases by one each time, up to a maximum determined by the number of players. For example, with five players, the maximum number of cards dealt per player is 10. After reaching this peak, the number of cards dealt decreases back to one card per player in the final round.
Bidding: Starting with the player to the left of the dealer, each player predicts the number of strokes they expect to win in the round. The highest bidder chooses the trump suit for that round.
Bidding Restriction: The dealer, who bids last, must ensure the total number of strokes predicted does not equal the number of cards dealt in that round. For instance, if seven cards are dealt, and the first three players bid 0, 3, and 2 strokes respectively, the dealer cannot bid 2 strokes because it would sum to 7 (0 + 3 + 2 + 2).
Scoring
Successful Bid: If a player wins exactly the number of strokes they predicted, they score points equal to their bid multiplied by the number of cards dealt in that round. For example, if a player bids 3 strokes in a round where 7 cards are dealt and wins exactly 3 strokes, they score (3 \times 7 = 21) points.
Failed Bid: If a player fails to win the exact number of strokes they predicted, they score 0 points for that round.
Overbid: If a player wins more strokes than they predicted, they score 0 points for that round.
Example of Scoring
Let's consider a round where 5 cards are dealt:
- Player A bids 2 strokes and wins 2 strokes: (2 \times 5 = 10) points.
- Player B bids 1 stroke but wins 0 strokes: 0 points.
- Player C bids 0 strokes and wins 0 strokes: (0 \times 5 = 0) points.
- Player D bids 2 strokes but wins 3 strokes: 0 points.
Keeping Track of Points
- Use a score sheet or a mobile app to record each player's bid and the actual number of strokes won in each round.
- Calculate the points for each player at the end of each round based on the rules above.
- Sum the points across all rounds to determine the final winner.
